Security personnel intercepted an intruder on Friday night at the Malibu residence of former Vice President Kamala Harris, according to local authorities and representatives for the politician. The individual managed to enter the grounds of the home shared by Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, but was stopped before ever reaching the actual house. Both Harris and Emhoff were away from the property at the time of the breach, and a spokesperson for the couple expressed gratitude toward the security team and law enforcement for their quick response.

Deputies from the Malibu Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene around 10:30 p.m. following a call regarding a suspicious person. Upon their arrival, officers coordinated with the private security detail already on site. Officials stated that the individual was found outside the property when they arrived and was subsequently warned to leave. While a formal trespassing report was filed, no arrests were made as the person departed voluntarily and without further incident. As a precautionary measure, sheriff’s deputies plan to increase patrols throughout the neighborhood.

This security lapse draws attention to recent changes in Harris’ protective status since leaving office. Last year, President Donald Trump revoked her U.S. Secret Service protection, aligning with standard protocol which typically grants former vice presidents six months of coverage. Although President Joe Biden had previously issued a memorandum in early 2025 attempting to extend that window to eighteen months, current administration policies have shifted back toward traditional timelines. Local law enforcement continues to monitor high profile residences in the area amid these changing federal protections.
